I have a confession to make…
If I see a great tweet by a business account that I follow BUT it has a glaring spelling mistake that cannot be edited because the tweet is too long, I won’t RT it. Yup, I freely admit it!
Worst offenders to get me running to the hills are: “If your in business” instead of “If you’re in business”…
…using apostrophes with plurals…
…the list goes on, including my personal favourite: “defiantly” instead of “definitely”. This can definitely change the tone of your tweet!
Is this slavish attention to good spelling wrong of me? Is this attitude too “old school”? Why can’t I go along with the overall “Jeez, just tweet it already; get a life” that many seem happy with?
I will tell you…come closer…
It’s all about good, clear and effective communication, and it’s hugely important if you use social media to promote your business.
Bear in mind that if you outsource your social media, it’s essential to select someone who knows what they are doing with your brand. All too often I see “social media experts” promoting their services and their tweets contain careless spelling errors.
If you are aware that your website and social media posts contain spelling mistakes and you don’t think it matters to do something about it, you are definitely driving potential customers away. That is a FACT.
ALL businesses, from your solo entrepreneur right up to the big brands must act and look professional to attract more customers/clients.
They say, “the Devil is in the detail”. If you (or your social media partner) don’t pay attention to the detail, will your audience think you don’t care about their custom and go elsewhere?
Do you have a social media bad habit?
